Sunday, 1 November, 1942 - Stan's Letter
Home Forces
Sunday lunchtime
My Own Darling,
They say “love will find a way” & you certainly seem to have found it! Anyway you have succeeded in persuading the Matron to let you off on the same days as I am on leave. There is certainly something for me to look forward to, now.
I shall be going home, all being well on 19th November, so I shall be able to come & meet you at Doncaster.
I had a letter from Mother yesterday. From what she says we shall have to be good children & spend each evening in Grimethorpe. The last buses from Doncaster and Barnsley are at 8 p.m. now.
Another thing she mentioned was that “Gone with the Wind” is in Barnsley whilst we are at home. We shall have to take a day off to see it.
There’s not a lot more to write about. I set up a new record yesterday – by working from 8.30 a.m. to 2.30 a.m. Sunday - & I was back on duty at 8.30 a.m., this morning. I am going to put in a claim for overtime! Getting a unit ready to go to war is certainly a big job!!
If I don’t finish writing now I shan’t catch the post & then you won’t get this for Monday morning, so I will shut up.
This mail is a nuisance. I didn’t get your last letter until three days after you had written it. It’s too long to wait!
Well, Darling, only about three weeks now, before I shall have you in my arms again. I am getting rather ready for a spot of leave, now, I can tell you.
Write back soon. All my love, Stan. xxxx
