G.H.N.

9-11-43

My Very Own Darling,

It is now 9.20 p.m. and I am writing this on duty.  No! do not jump to the conclusion that I am on night duty.  I am still on day duty but the night nurse of this ward wanted to attend a play practice to-night so I offered to relieve her for an hour.

Everything is very quiet at the moment, we have just been round and shaken everybody's pillow and tucked them up for the night so I thought that whilst I was waiting for Nurse to come back I would write this letter to you.

Your air-letter dated Oct 30th arrived this morning.  It had only taken 10 days to come.  The A.P.O. seems to be excelling itself once again.

Yes, Darling, I did receive that long letter which you sent me about Malta.  I also received the Maltese note and your photograph.  I have written a letter in reply to same so may be you will have received it by now.

The photograph most certainly does not do you justice.  I prefer the previous one I had of you.  Thank you for it Darling, even that is better than not having a photograph at all.

I am so glad that you like me collecting things for our home.  You know Darling, when I wrote and told you about that breakfast set I did not know whether you would be interested in china or not but just hoped you might be.

A letter also arrived from home for me this morning.  Vera is once again feeling a little better.  Everybody at home is wanting me to take my uniform home with me and have my photo taken with Eric.  If I do I will let you have one.

I shall be going home to-morrow so will let you have the latest Grimethorpe news in my next letter.

Ah – here comes the night nurse so I will say Goodnight to you Precious and toddle along to my own little bed.  Kit said she would have some tea made for when I got across.  No more then Darling.  I still love you so very much and longing for the day when you come back to me.  Always your own, Grace  xxxxx
