My Very Own Darling,
I had rather a hectic morning, this morning. I had to go the nearest town today on business & so I took the opportunity of buying some powder & lipstick for you. Don’t get too enthusiastic however, Dear, for being pessimistic, I am sure it won’t be the right shade. I certainly isn’t peach, by any means!
However, I took the interpreter with me & we both explained to the shop girl what shade your hair was. What colour your eyes were – in fact everything but your birth date. She produced something which looked like dirty flour & said that was the shade which would suit you - & after all how was I to argue?
Anyway Darling, I am posting it tomorrow. If it doesn’t suit you, you can give it to Kit or one of your other friends. You will be popular then!!
Enclosed you will find the photograph I have already written to you about. Don’t be mislead by the dashing pose for actually I can’t ride a motorcycle at all! It looks good, however!! I hope you like it. I think, although it is a cheaply developed “snap” it is better than the last photo I sent you.
I had my blood grouped, by the blood transfusion people a few days ago & if it is of any interest to you, I am A/2 group. You did tell me what group you were, but I have forgotten. Tell me next time you write. If I am ever pegging out, will you be in a position to donate some blood or are you in the wrong group? Don’t forget to tell me, just as a matter of interest
I am pleased to say I have got rid of my cold now, a couple of early nights in bed with Asproes, etc. seemed to do the trick.
It is darned chilly here at the moment, however, with no fires about the billets to warm oneself by. A fireplace in an Italian house is an unknown thing in this part of the country, but I suppose it is not to be wondered at for there’s no coal to use in them if they existed. All the people use oil or charcoal for cooking purposes. When I get back to Grimethorpe it will be quite a pleasure to draw up in front of a fire.
Especially so, with you, by my side, Darling. I am looking forward so much to a repetition of some of these perfectly wonderful evenings we shared in front of the fire at No. 56 during last winter. I think sitting there with you in my arms was the nearest I have ever been to complete happiness.
Life was so thrilling then, wasn’t it Darling during those all too short leaves. When I think as I sit here, of such happiness can you wonder at my impatience to get home to your side again.
The meeting of Churchill, Stalin, Roosevelt & Chang-Kai-Shek holds much promise for the future, however, & I certainly think (& hope) that there’ll be something big before very long.
I had a letter the other day from my Mother describing the Foster wedding at Grimethorpe. Apparently the “Gossip Club” had bought her a silver platter. I hope when we get married nobody will be foolish enough to buy us such a useless article. It is alright if you’ve got the rest of things to go with it, but I could think of much better things, couldn’t you?
Well, Darling, I am writing this during my lunch hour which is almost up, so I am afraid that I shall have to dash away
There’s no fresh news other than what I have already imparted to you.
I am still loving you so much my Dear & living & planning like anything for our life together when I return, when I think what life is going to be like it makes the present existence feel ever so much better.
Keep my love, Angel, I know
that I have yours. Always yours, Stan
