Edinburgh

11-7-44                                                                               (148)

My Own Darling,

Have not received any more letters from you since I last wrote you, though I suppose my mail will be waiting for me at home.

I wrote you a sea-letter and posted it on the 9th though I suppose you will not receive it for a couple of months.

Yesterday was not a very nice day.  It was cold and wet so we ended up at the pictures.  We saw Walt Disney’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”.  I had not seen it before and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Nan says that I must finish this later as tea is ready.  Guess what we are having:- you never will so I had better tell you – chicken and chips, followed by freshly made cream dough-nuts and Scotch pancakes – the two latter articles having been made by myself.  Nan has been giving me a few cookery lessons whilst I have been here.  So far everybody has lived to tell the tale.

This afternoon we paid a visit to the Art Gallery.  There were some beautiful oil paintings hanging but a few of the pieces of sculpture resembled Epstein’s works.  I think his work is ugly, don’t you?

A few hours later

We have just returned from the Theatre and a visit to the sea.

In a previous letter I mentioned that we were going to see “Is Your Honeymoon Really Necessary”.  Well we have seen it and it was a jolly good laugh from beginning to end.  We thoroughly enjoyed it.  (Please excuse the grease spots, they are the result of writing a letter on the table when a meal is set).

After leaving the Theatre we caught a tram to Portobello and had a whiff of the sea before catching a tram back home.

Only one more day here and then we shall take a train back home again.  Kit has just suggested that we get up early and walk to the top of Arthur’s Seat.  The last time we decided to do that we slept until nearly 12 m/d, so I think that we had better not make any rash promises.

It is very late Darling so Good-night.  As always you have all my love.

Your own, Grace  xxxxxxx
