Notts. Monday
My Precious Darling,
I am afraid that this letter will be “short-sweet”. “As usual” , I can hear you say. I really have lots to tell you but as to-day is Monday and as I have a lecture this evening and I shall not come off duty until it is time to go to the G.H.N. for my lecture – well – you can see how matters stand!
The letter you wrote me Wednesday arrived here this morning.
Sister said that I could have ½ day Sat: & day off Sunday so I decided to go home. As I really should not have had a half-day I was lucky. She also came back on duty 20 minutes earlier so that I could catch my train. I came back by bus – it is much better. I came via Mansfield. That cuts out Nottingham altogether. I think that I shall go by bus too as with a run I shall just catch the bus out of Doncaster.
Yesterday I went to see your family and was presented with my birthday present. Guess what it was – you can’t – well, I will not keep you in suspense. It was a cake board (instead of a stand) and cake knife. I was so thrilled with it. I wish you could see it, but I suppose it will have to wait like lots of other things for you to see.
Vera knitted me a tea cosy. She said I was to tell you that it was her first contribution towards my “bottom drawer”. It’s getting quite thrilling isn’t it?
And now Darling – I must close. Hope you can read this scrawl. Sorry about this paper but have not got half my things out here with me.
All my love Darling.
Yours for ever. Grace xxxxxxxx
