My Very Own Darling,
I received your air letter dated 30 March about four days ago, but today is the first opportunity I have had of replying to it. Your description of going home made me feel very homesick, Darling. I am simply living for the day when I shall be back in England once more for that day will be the day when you & I can really start living & see all the plans we have made beginning to materialise.
Sitting in a car as it is going along a dusty desert road can be very uninteresting and boring & it is then that I can be almost alone with my thoughts. Yesterday I was thinking how grand it will be “after the war” (three small words which mean such an awful lot) for you and I to live a life of our own, in our own home. If the success of this war means only that to you & I (although it will mean more in actual reality) then it will have been worth all these months of separation that it has caused us. Don’t you think so?
What happy moments your remark about my Mother’s new chairs recalled! She had not mentioned anything to me about them. So there’s room for two in each of them is there? I hope that we shan’t have much occasion to use them after I come home. By that time let’s hope we shall be having some chairs of our own!!
So you had a chance to get a bit of experience in baby nursing, eh? I am all for that as you know, but I think there’s lots more to be done before you take a course in that! I know your feelings are the same.
How dare you say that your letters are boring to me. You know very well that that is far from the truth. I soak in every little word you write & am interested in your every movement. As long as each letter finishes up as your last one did & I know that you are missing me, that is all that matters.
Sorry to hear that Vera is still in bed. It is nice to know that she is still improving, however. Hope your Father & Mother are both in good health.
You know there is very little of interest about my everyday life I can tell you. At the moment I am surrounded by sand. A bucket & spade & a few gallons of water & one could play at sandcastles. A few clusters of flowers break up the monotony of the scene. They are very small, but very colourful these desert flowers. There are some which closely resemble marigolds & others like anemones.
How’s the “bottom drawer” business going on, Darling. Have you managed to get the silks to finish your cover yet? When we get to a civilised spot I shall have to look around & see if there is anything I can buy you, but judging from what I have already seen, there appears to be very little.
If I had have been in England
I should have been preparing for a 10 day leave now. It is just three months since my last
leave. What a long three months it has
been too. I hope the time which has to
come passes a bit faster. Don’t you.
Well my Darling, this is all for now. I will write again as soon as the opportunity affords itself. Until then keep my love & keep loving me. I know you will.
Yours Stan xxxx
