My Very Own Darling,

Letter no: 8 arrived this morning.  After receiving eight pages a few days ago and then your Airgraph this morning Dear it was simply marvellous.  I am looking forward to receiving the 10 pages which you have promised.  Greedy aren’t I?  Yes, I admit that I am when it comes to receiving your letters.  I can never get enough of them.  I would not mind Darling if each sentence was the same as the beginning one of your letter, telling me how much you care and how much you are missing me.  I do love you my Darling, so very much and I am missing you too.

Thursday
And now to continue my letter.  What busy days I am having these days.  The weather here too is glorious.  Remember those terribly hot days when you came to Nottingham last August?  Well, it is like that but just a breeze blowing.  Yesterday was my day off and I spent it in Nottingham.  I went to see “Random Harvest” starring Ronald Coleman and Grea Garson.  Did you ever see the picture before you left England?  It is a fairly old one but very good.

Friday
Dear, dear.  I don’t seem as if I can get on with my letter.  I thought that I might get it finished yesterday but as you can see I did not.  Sister decided that she had to go out and asked me if I would mind going on duty early.  I did mind – but I went back.  We three (Kit, Farrow and myself) went to the village dance last night.  It was quite good, as far as village dances go.  Five of the other nurses went too.  I went to see “the powers that be” to try to get mid-night leave for everybody.  I eventually succeeded in getting 11.30 p.m. but I was made responsible for all the others being in to time.  Really – that sort of thing makes me furious.  However, you have heard my opinion upon these things before so I will not repeat it in my letter.

What do you think I have just had?  You cannot guess, I bet.  Well, I will tell you – ½ an orange! ! !  I am only sorry to say that it was not the real thing.  As a matter of fact I have had a 25 mg vitamin C tablet which is the equivalent of half an orange.

I don’t seem as if I can get on with this letter somehow.  Farrow is in the sitting room with me and will persist in reading aloud.  It is very annoying when somebody else is wanting to write is not it?

By the way, Darling, I think that after you receive this letter you had better send my letters to the “Nurses Home, General Hospital” again.  You see I am due back next Tuesday.  I do not think that I shall go back to time, I will most likely be a week or two overdue but as you will not receive this for another week or so by the time your letters do arrive at the G.H.N. I shall be back there.

Kit says I have to ask you if you can do the “Snake Dance” yet?  Can you?  You don’t seem to think much of the Arabs out there.  What are the women like?  No!  It is alright – don’t get suspicious.  I am merely asking you from a personal point of view.  We people in England have heard such a lot about the “dark eyed beauties” I just wondered if they were any more than the average English girl.

And now, my Darling, once again it is Au Revoir.  All my love my own Darling.  Yours ever, Grace  xxxxxxx
