My Own Darling,
Monday morning I received an ordinary letter from you. Actually it had arrived Saturday and Kit had posted it on for me. You had written it on April 21st.
On Tuesday I came back.
I caught the 1.38 p.m. train from Cudworth and arrived in Nottingham at
around 3.30 p.m. I decided to go to the
G.H.N. and enquire if there was any post for me. There was – three letters from you, Darling –
two of which were air letters and one an airgraph. I was so thrilled. One air letter you had written on May 4th
and one on May 10th. Good going wasn’t it? The airgraph you had written on April 20th.
It is a marvellous day and Kit, Joyce and myself are sitting out in a field next to the hospital. Kit is trying to give me a caterpillar to put in this letter. Just a bit of good old England she says. I tell her that you have enough livestock out there – according to your letters. However, Kit & Joyce are lying on a poor buttercup, pressing it, so that I can send it to you in the next ordinary letter I write.
I suppose that by the time you get this you will have received Vera’s letter as well.
Yes, I too prefer air letters to airgraphs. They travel quicker too.
So you will not feel like travelling once you get back to England? Well, well, we shall see!
So you do not think much of the Arab women either? You seem to have some bad impressions of places and people out there. I wish I was there to see these things with you.
It is 10 minutes to four and I am on duty at 4 p.m. so I will have to run now.
You mentioned in one of your letters that you wished you were here now in May. Yes, I do too. We had a grand time together last year, hadn’t we?
I am sorry that you had to wait so long for my last lot of letters. I know what it must feel like having to wait such an age, as I know how I feel when I have to wait more than a week.
Pleased to hear that you have your Khaki Drill uniform at last. I am now anxiously awaiting some snaps!
You know, what with tailoring, darning, etc., you should make a really good husband! Can you see me letting you do it?

We are quite busy out here now. We are having to take more patients from the G.H.N. South Wing has been opened and as we have had no more staff sent out, things are just a bit busy. However, we will get over it. I have got a ward full of boys to cope with. There ages range from 10 – 15 years. I am quite enjoying it really. They are rather a nice ward.
No more this time Darling. My love as ever. Always yours, Grace xxxxxxx
P.S. Have caught
an awful cold. Would you like some cold
germs sending?
