Grimethorpe (41)?
14-7-43
My Own Precious Darling,
I have not much to report to-day but I will give you an account of my day's doings.
I have been a good girl to-day and have been taking Mother out. I went with her to Hemsworth Food-Office for their Ration cards for next week. We then went to Fitzwilliam to see my Uncles and Aunts (I have two of each living there).
Aunt Ada said that as soon as you returned from North Africa I had to take you along (Ha ha, now I have roped you in).
We arrived back home at 7.40 p.m. Of course, we would not be late back because of the buses and we could not leave Vera for long. I am afraid that Dad is not much company for her. Vera says that she is going to write you some time this week – I don’t know when.
That is all the news for to-night Darling. I am hoping that to-morrow might bring me a letter from you.
Thursday, 15th
This morning’s post brought me two back letters from you, Dear, Numbers 27 and 30. Enclosed were the postcards and the two copies of the “Tunis Trumpet”.
The swimming pool – according to the post card; looks very inviting. How I wish I was there to take a dip with you – you would be able to induce me to swim in that swimming pool.
Darling, I was thrilled to have your letter and hear how much you love me. I wonder how far away the day is when we shall be in each others arms again and able to tell each other how much we care. I love you too, Darling – so very much. Hurry the day when we can put all our hopes and dreams and plans into operation. You said in your letter that you were saving hard for that great day. I guessed that you were my Dear. I am so proud of you – so proud that you are my boy and I am so glad that I took notice when you told me to let life take its own course.
Darling – you do not really think that I will join the Q.A.I.M.N.S. do you? You can put all your fears aside as I will not. Just think how awful it would be if you came home and I was stuck at the other end of the earth.
No Dear – whilst you are away I am gradually getting together a few things for our home. I am afraid that the progress is slow and as yet I have far from got all that we shall want but as I said before – they are collecting.
By the way, do you really want that Grandfather clock? If you do you know I think that we shall have it. As I write this it is ticking away slowly and steady and it has just reminded me that it is midnight so Goodnight Precious.
All my love, Your own Grace xxxxxxxx
