ABERTILLERY 38.
7-7-43
My Own Darling,
Here I am trying to write you once again bit it is almost impossible. These Welsh people – can they talk! Yes, I know that I can do my share but I cannot get a word in here. Not that I mind – I like listening to them.
This morning we went mountaineering I think that I told you yesterday we were going to. Don’t ask me how high we climbed I tried to find out but nobody seemed to know. When we got nearly to the top of the mountain there was a tiny old fashioned inn where we managed to get a drink of cider (it was all they had in – they hadn’t any lemonade). We were ready for it too.
Now Dear, just think what you might be coming home to – a woman who visits public houses!!
This afternoon we visited Kit's aunt and now it is evening and I am writing to you.
It is just eighteen months to-day since we went out together for the first time. Do you remember that evening in Barnsley? How I wish I was there now – with you. Ah well – I might just as well wish for the moon.
Do you know what I have just had given to me – a real orange. If I do not eat it now it might disappear so I had better get going.

I managed to get hold of a map of this district and found that we climbed to 1,550 ft above sea level. Good going wasn’t it?
This morning we went to a place called Abergavenny which is about 15 miles away. We could not walk all the way. After yesterday it would have been too much. We passed some very nice scenery.
When we got there we were so tired that we laid by the side of the river and fell asleep for an hour.
It was half-day closing there and after walking round the
town for about half an hour we managed to get in an old fashioned cafe. I am afraid that we did not enjoy our
lunch. The cooking was too anaemic. I know that my cooking is nothing to talk
about but I could have done better than that
By the way, did I tell you in one of my previous letter that I have at long last finished my cover? I could not for the life of me remember whether I had told you or not so if I have you must forgive me for repeating myself.
Once again my Dear, I come to the end of my letter. I am hoping that to-morrow will bring a letter from you.
All my love my Darling. Your very own, Grace xxxxxxx
PS Kit sends her
kind regards.
