My Very Own Darling,
You are a very loveable girl writing all these letters to me whilst you were on holiday! It has been absolutely grand during the last week to receive all five (or perhaps it was six) of them. They arrived just when I needed a bit of cheering up, too.
Yes, I can imagine how you felt all the time you were at Grimethorpe, going to the places to which we had gone together and doing things which we had shared before. I know how it felt after you had gone back and I had to stay in Grimethorpe – and believe me I should not have liked to have done it for three weeks. However, it may be for the last time (let’s be optimistic anyway!!)
I can just imagine your thoughts as you sat at home writing one of the letters as midnight drew near. I especially liked that letter because it proves (if I should need any proof and of course I don’t because I absolutely certain of your love, Darling) that you do actually think lots and lots of me. Fancy you offering to put up with the Grandfather’s clock! And just for me too! Oh, Darling, I loved you lots and lots for writing that little bit. We must talk about that later, however.
It is so thrilling to hear that you are still going strong with your collection for the great day, but most annoying to think that I’m so far away and cannot help in anyway (that seems to rhyme – must be the hot weather that’s doing it). All this great news just makes me long more and more for the day when I can come home to you. It will be a great day, won’t it? As long as I can make you as happy as you have made me during the past year and a half I shall be satisfied.
Sorry to hear that Kit and you have been separated as far as duties are concerned. I quite agree that it is not fair on Kit to put her on night duty a month before her finals. I bet you are glad it wasn’t the other way around.
Glad to hear that you had been entertaining the Bristow Clan at No. 56 again. I wish I could have been there too. Remember how you and I got the supper ready last time. I found during my last leaves that I used to enjoy doing odd little things like that for you, Darling. That’s a secret I have let out so I don’t want you to take too much advantage of it in years to come!
John and Janet appear to have done very well at school during the last year. At last the Bristow family has a clever member amongst its ranks. Janet has achieved something I ever managed in being top of the form!
Mother was saying that John wasn’t too well and that the Doctor thought his heart wasn’t too strong. I hope things go on O.K.
At the same time as I received your last batch of letters I got Vera’s and shall be replying when time permits. I guess she will be sorry that your leave is over.
Well, Angel, I will write a long letter by sea in the next couple of days. These things are O.K. but they are not long enough, are they.
All my love, Darling. Always yours
Stan xxxxxx
