My Very Own Darling,
I was so pleased to receive your cable this morning. As your letters have not been arriving so regularly of late I was getting worried about you. I suppose that by now you will have received my letter telling you that I am perfectly well and on duty again. I hope that you did not worry Darling, as it has only been a slight illness.
I suppose that I am lucky to hear so often as I do from you as Bessie has not had a letter from Eric for five weeks.
Vera wrote yesterday but she had not much news. She said that your Mother was getting a bit worried as she had not heard from you.
As I get off duty at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday is my day off I shall try and get home. If I can get into Mansfield for 5 p.m. I shall catch a bus that arrives in Doncaster at 7 p.m. That means that I shall get home for 9 p.m. I shall have to leave at 5 p.m. the next day but I feel that I would like to go home. Jean is going too so we can travel to Doncaster together.
Of course, Sister is on holiday, which means that I can get off duty a bit earlier.
I was thankful to see her go too as the week previously she had been thoroughly bad tempered and consequently everybody else was too.
Do you remember me going to the wedding of my friend Connie, a year last June? Well, the same friend has recently been presented with a daughter. I am going along to see her to-morrow as it is my day off. I believe that she was quite ill but is improving now. Ah me, what we poor women have to put up with!!
Kit is back from her nights off and on day duty again, thank goodness. I suppose that we shall both be going on night duty in October.
I was off duty at 5 p.m. to-day so went to the pictures. One was a “Tarzan” film and the other called “The Great Mr Gildersleeve”. Both were quite good but I had seen the latter one before.
As there is not much space left I suppose I had better say Au-Revoir. Take care of yourself, Darling.
All my love, yours always, Grace xxxxxxxxx
