1.9.43

My Very Own Darling,

The beginning of another month!  As each new month starts I wonder what new events there will be.  September seems to be rather an eventful month, does it not?  Another two days and it will be four years is since this dreadful war started.  Such a lot seems to have happened since that day.  It makes me wonder how long it will be before Hitler and his cronies are put down for ever.  Not much longer, I hope.  I am longing so much for you to come home, Darling.

This afternoon Jean and I decided to do a bit more shopping.  We can use our new coupons now you know.

The first thing I bought was something for our home Dear.  It was a bath towel.  Even such things are on coupons now so I could only get one.  However, every little helps.

Believe it or not I actually bought a new hat!  I thought that it was abought time I went out looking respectably dressed.  Not that I shall wear it much.  I don’t suppose I shall.  It is navy blue and a halo style.  I don’t suppose that conveys much to you but I thought that it would give you some idea.

Sister had a couple of theatre tickets given to her last night.  She was not off duty so could not go so she asked me if I would like them.  Of course, I did not refuse.  Jean and I went.  It was “The Desert Song”.  A very good show.

Kit went home last Sunday until to-morrow for her nights off.  She is coming back to day duty, thank goodness.

I went to a trade show the other morning, called “They Met the Devil”.  It was very good.  It was about a Nazi occupied village in Norway.  Of course, it was really horrid in parts but I think that these pictures bring home to people what is happening in these occupied countries.

I cannot remember whether or not I mentioned in my last letter that I had had a snap taken.  If it turns out alright I will send you one.

I cannot give you any Grimethorpe news in this letter a I am waiting for a letter from home.

If I have not any fresh news my Darling there is always the old news that I am loving you as much as ever and looking forward to the great day when you come home again.

Until that day then, you will have to accept my written love.

Always your own, Grace  xxxxxxxx
