My Very Own Darling,
It is now three weeks since I received an air-letter from you and it seems like three months! I suppose that you will not be receiving my letters either. I wonder how old this letter will be when it eventually reaches you.
It is my day-off to-day but it is not a very nice day. It looks as if there might be rain any minute. It is also Kit’s and Jean’s days off. We went looking around the shops this morning but there is nothing much that we can buy these days unless of course, one is a millionaire. We shall most likely go out to the pictures to-night and that will be the end of our day off. Yes, it certainly is a pretty miserable way of spending a day off but there is nothing else to do.
Jean is lucky, her boy friend manages to come down about once every two or three weeks for her day off. He comes usually when she is not able to get home. I must admit it makes me feel a little jealous. Never mind Darling, we will have so much more to make up when you come home. I am longing so much for that great day.
We had a bit of excitement here last Monday. A convoy of wounded soldiers arrived – from Sicily, I think.
We had to take civilian patients from other wards to our ward to make beds for them. There are a number of walking cases amongst them so I suppose that most of them will soon be going to convalescent homes.
Vera wrote me yesterday. She said that Grandfather was worse and they are thinking of sending him to a Nursing Home. It really is too much for Mother.
I went to the pictures last Sunday and saw “The Man in Grey”. It is a very good film. I suppose it will be months since you saw an English or American film.
They have still not heard anything from Eric at home and I think that it is a few weeks since Bessie paid a visit to Grimethorpe.
I have just been reading an old letter of yours Darling, dated July 6th. Another week and it will be October 6th and one year and eight months since we first met. What a lot has happened in such a short time, though I feel that we have known each other years and years.
Russia is making rapid strides in her advance these days and the news from Italy is good. If things continue to be so good may-be this war will not last as long as we think. I sincerely hope so. All I ever think about these days is getting the war over and what we two shall do together “after the war”.
You have all my love my Darling. Yours always, Grace xxxxxxxxx
