My Very Own Darling,

By the time you receive this letter, Darling, you will have got your dreaded examination behind you & be launched on the long – and as you say – agonising wait for the result.  What a long time waiting for the result!  How do you think you got on?

I am sorry to hear that you are not getting my letters very regularly, dear, but my visit to North Africa caused a gap which you are just feeling the effect of.  During the time I was in North Africa I couldn’t write an air letter to you, you see.

Your air letter of 19 Sept rolled up last night & consequently put me in a very good mood for my day off today.  It is a grand morning this morning – and very much cooler thank goodness, but I thought I would stay in & do a spot of sock-darning & also write to you.  I wish you were here to do the former for me!  I have arranged to go to the local theatre this afternoon.  There is a decent orchestra appearing this week, & there’s also a rumour that Gracie Fields is appearing to-day too.  Whether there is any truth in that I don’t know.

I was sorry to hear of your Grandfather’s illness.  Yes he is a good age, but unhappily they do begin to get very helpless.  I agree with what you say dear.  Your Mother has enough on her plate without having him to look after too.  I always think it is a pity one has to grow old & become more or less of a nuisance.

Work is slackening off here at the moment and so that gives us time to think of recreation a bit.  I have been swimming on one or two evenings of late & on Friday we had a concert given by a local concert party.  Considering not one of the party could speak English, they did very well.  There was a couple of operatic signers who did quite well, but I’ll tell you more about it on an ordinary letter which I’ll probably start writing tonight.

As you can guess Darling I got a big thrill out of reading at the end of the letter of how after eight months apart, you are still caring for me & missing me such a lot.  It is the best news I can ever get Dear.

You know how much I love you & look to you to provide the happiness for me in the life we have planned to make after the war.  I promise you Darling that I shall do my best to repay you for all this love as soon as I come home.  I love you so much Angel and am just living for one day – you know which!

All my love as always   Yours Stan xxxx
