Nurses Home,
General Hospital                                                                           (71)
Nottingham

16-11-43                 10 p.m.

My Very Own Darling,

As I am waiting for night nurse to come back on duty I thought that I would start writing this.  Once again I am relieving night nurse whilst she goes to the “Dramatic Society” rehearsal.  I guess I shall have to try and get a day nurse to relieve me for a few hours when I am on night duty.

Night Sister has just been along and informed me that I am going on night duty to-morrow.

Do you remember the ward I was on when you came to Nottingham to see me?  Well, I am going on night duty on the same ward.

I liked the ward alright on day duty but I must admit that I am dreading the responsibility of night duty there.  It is a heavy ward of 39 beds – and a women's ward.  It seems such a long time since I did Medical nursing too.  However, I suppose it is no good meeting trouble half-way, it might not be as bad as I expect, I will write you an air-letter in the week telling you all about it.

That, I think, is quite enough about hospital.  To turn to more pleasant and thrilling subjects.

Ten minutes after I had posted your air letter yesterday I received an air-letter from you.  You can imagine how thrilled I was – three letters from you in one day!  It was dated Nov: 4th and had only taken – according to the post mark – a week to come.

17-11-43       3 p.m.

This morning's post brought me another letter from you.  It was a sea letter and dated Sept. 21st.  In it you mentioned having received the heather and card alright.

In my last sea letter I posted you another card that I saw and liked and thought that you would appreciate it too.

In your letter you said lots of lovely things Darling but do not put me on too high a pedestal will you Dear?  I am sure that I shall never be able to live up to all those things which you say I am.

Like you – I too am longing for the day when we shall be in each others arms again.  I often wonder how far – or near – that day is and where we shall meet again.  It will certainly not be in the Grimethorpe “Welfare Hall” will it?

I am writing this in bed.  Time is creeping on and I really ought to be asleep if I am to keep awake all night.

Before I close however I really must tell you once again that I love you Darling.

Always you own, Grace  xxxxxxx
