My Very Own Darling,
Well, that couple of days in bed did the trick and here I am, back at work and feeling fine again.
The spell in bed did one thing, anyway Darling, it gave me time to read that novel you sent me amongst my Christmas books – called “Counterfeit”. It is quite good. Beautifully written, it grips you, but it is so full of chaperones and shy young women who don’t know how many beans make five, that I found myself breathing a prayer that you and I do not live in the days of Queen Victoria.
Funny, if we had have done, there would have been none of those thrilling nights together, for we should not have been allowed to have been alone together until our marriage. Yes, I think the Twentieth Century has got a lot of advantages over the Victorian era!
I had a piece of upsetting news this morning. Our interpreter, whom I like very much & have been quite friendly with has been involved in a road accident & has sustained severe facial injuries.
Poor lad! He seems fated to suffer at the hands of the Italians, for after suffering in one of their concentration camps he was injured by an Italian lorry travelling much faster than it ought to have been. He will be more bitter than ever against the “wops” now I suppose. I hope the hospital can fix his face up OK.
But I suppose I am boring you with our troubles, so I had better write about more cheerful matters than this.
No more mail from you since I last wrote, Darling, but I have warned that so-and-so of a post NCO what I shall do to him if there’s nothing tomorrow morning! And it isn’t fit to repeat!!
By the time this epistle reaches you, you will no doubt be looking forward to your nights off. How I wish that I too were looking forward to going home to be with you for five heavenly days and nights! But let us hope that we shall not have to count our time together in the future in days and nights, but that when we next are together it will be for always and always.
How I am looking forward to that time, Angel. Why can’t it hurry up and dawn?
Until then, keep loving me
Darling. I love you so much. Always yours Stan xxxxxx
