My Own Darling,

I thought that I would write you a few lines before I retired for the night.  Your parents and the twins have been up for supper and have just gone.  Of course Kiltie came as well.  I think that as usual a good time was had by all.

Those “nights off” have been a bus man’s holiday for me, as the second morning at home Father developed Duodenitis which is inflammation of part of the intestine.  Poor Father!  I kept him on a strict Gastric diet which did not suit at all.  However, he thrived on it and was well enough to get up this evening and help to entertain the Bristows.  How I wish you were here as well Darling.

And now Darling, I must thank you for my birthday present your Mother brought it up with her this evening.  I suppose you will be wondering what it is, unless of course your Mother has written and told you about it.  It is a beautiful, large, glass salad bowl and servers.  It really is lovely, Darling, thank you so much.  Your parents bought me half a dozen fruit spoons which are very nice and there was a mustard and salt spoon from John & Janet.  I was very thrilled with everything.  Really, Dear, if we go on at this rate we shall have everything we want before we are ready for it.  Poor Mother, she does not know what to empty next for me to heap my things in.  It is all so thrilling, isn’t it?  I do wish you were here to see everything.  What a time we shall have going through everything when you come home.  Darling, that day cannot come too soon for me, as I know I have told you a hundred times before.  I also know that it cannot come too soon for you.

Eric was on forty-eight hours leave this week and I suppose he has gone back this morning.  Bessie and he came over last night for a few hours.

Apart from that nothing spectacular has happened.  I seem to have done a lot of sleeping and as I shall be on duty all night to-morrow I guess I had better say Good-night to you my love and tootle along to bed.  How I wish it was one of our old “Good-nights”.  Until it can be again you have all my love.  Grace   xxxxx
