My Very Own Darling,
At last the weather is beginning to get warmer. It was quite pleasant strolling along the jetty this lunch time. The sky was cloudless & its deep blue reflected in the calm waters of the sea to make a brilliant contrast to the background of whitewashed villas & narrow streets of the town.
As I walked back to the office I felt that all that was needed to make life pleasantly bearable was a letter from you. I was in for a disappointment when I got back for, for the twelfth day running, the Post Corporal’s answer was “no”.
Twelve days without hearing from you Darling seems like twelve years. The time drags by so slowly and gives one a most unpleasant taste of what life would be like without you. I love you and think of you so much my dear that life would lose all its colour if I hadn’t your letters to look forward to. Don’t ever stop writing to me Darling will you?
I know that you are not to blame for this lack of letters, dear. Everyone here is in the same boat. The reason apparently is that you are having such bad weather back in England that the planes can’t take off. Still it is an irritating nuisance, for the receipt of mail is a soldier’s main delight.
However, I have written to the clerk of the weather & told him what I think of him so probably there’ll be a change for the better now!
There is very little news to tell you. We have moved into a new Mess and had a “house-warmer” last night and consequently there are a few thick heads floating around this morning! The main advantage of our move is that we now occupy a house with a bath - a most rare object in this part of the world.
Well, my Darling, that seems to be about all for now. I’ll go off to sleep hoping that to-morrow will break the bad spell & that there’ll be lots of mail arrive from you.
I expect you are just settling down to your nightly vigil now (it is nearly 10 p.m.) Hope your patients aren’t too much of a nuisance.
As always Darling you have my
love Stan xxxxxxxx
