My Own Darling,
This morning I received your air-letter dated Jan: 4th. I was so pleased that you received mail from me on Christmas Day. Your letter was the best Christmas box I had.
Christmas seems so far away now, doesn’t it? I wonder where we shall both be next Christmas?
The other morning I saw a trade show and a newsreel was being shown of the country you are fighting in in Italy. I must admit I did not envy you. It looked dreadful – all the snow and frost.
We have only had one light fall of snow in England as yet. Of course there is no telling what we will have before spring comes again.
When I read one paragraph of your letter I really did envy you. Lucky you – being able to go see an Italian opera.
No Darling, you really deserve such pleasures as that – you have earned it and more luxuries. You will be able to tell me all about it when you come home and that will be almost as good as seeing these things myself.
At the trade show I mentioned having seen, earlier in my letter, I saw Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes in “The Spider Woman”. It was very good and a change.
Once again I am “taking in”. We never seem to do anything else but “take in” on this ward. We “take in” for a fortnight and have just one week's rest.
However, I am pleased to say that I am enjoying it much more than I did the first fortnight on the ward. Also I have a very good senior probationer working for me and that does make a lot of difference. She really is a grand girl but goes for her holidays next week. I go for my nights off next week too and I shall miss her when I get back.
Well Darling, as Ivy – another of my friends here – is waiting for me I had better go. We are going to “The Granary” for coffee. Do you remember – it is the little cafe where we went for tea when you came to Nottingham. Every time I enter the place I think of you and I sitting in that corner. Here I go, reminiscing again!
I still love you Darling, more than ever. Your own, Grace xxxxxxxxxx
