Grimethorpe                                                                                 (99)

17-2-44

My Own Darling,

As you can see, I am at home once again.  I arrived yesterday at 3 p.m., as usual – frozen and tired.  However, after an early night and thirteen hours sleep – without waking once, I am once again feeling full of beans.

An air letter arrived for me yesterday before I left.  It was written on Feb 6th.

I am so sorry Darling, that my cable did not arrive on our anniversary.  I tried to time it so that it would.  I hope it arrived soon after.  Also you did not even get a letter from me – how disappointing.  Never mind Darling – even if you did not hear from me, you know that would be thinking about you – especially on our anniversary and  loving you as much as ever.

Maybe next year there will be no need for us to write on our anniversary – we may be together.  How I hope and pray that the war will be over and you will be home again.

Sorry I keep repeating myself but Vera will persist in talking to me.  At the moment Mother is darning Father’s socks.  Do you remember the time I darned your socks? I wonder how long it will be before I darn your socks again?

Mother and I went to Barnsley this morning and your Mother was on the same bus.   She was going to Barnsley.  I am going up to see everybody at 19’ tonight.

Mother, Dad and Vera wish to be remembered to you.  Vera says that she will write you as soon as ever she has finished knitting a shawl.

The shawl is for Aunt Hilda.  It is a massive shawl – about sixty inches square.  I am glad that Vera is knitting it and not me.  (Because of the size of it).

Yes Darling, I too would like our reunion to be “just between ourselves”.  It is thrilling to think about it so how thrilling it will be when it actually takes place.  Each day that passes brings that happy day one day nearer.

As Vera is waiting to post this letter for me I will have to tell you just how much I still love you and say ‘Bye for now.  You have all my love Darling.

For ever yours, Grace xxxxxx
