Sunday

23-4-44

My Very Own Darling,

I was very pleased to receive the photograph you promised me.  I think that it is quite good and it is now sitting in the middle of my dressing table.  I wonder if you have received mine yet.  Yours only took ten days to come.  A sea letter in ten days!  Not bad is it?  I love receiving recent letters from you.

Today is my half day.  It is another beautiful day and quite warm.  I would like to go for a nice long walk but I have not got the energy so here I am lazing on my bed and writing to you.  Maybe I will go out this evening as my friend will be off duty at 5 p/m.

All being well, I shall be going home this coming Tuesday until Thursday.  You see my week-end is due when Sister is away so I am making sure of it and having my time off before her holidays.

I was sorry to hear about Paul*.  I wonder what can have happened to his fiancée?  I can well imagine how upset he must be, not hearing anything of her for such a long time.  We are very lucky really, aren’t we Darling?

You mentioned in your letter that after the war we must have our first holiday in London.  I would love that, but London is such an expensive place, isn’t it?  I suppose we shall just have to wait & see.

At the moment I am making a baby frock!  It is all right – do not get worried as it happens to be for a friend’s baby.  It is quite a while since I did any sewing so I thought that making baby clothes would be a change.

Really, I get lazier.  Before I took my “finals” not only l did I attend lectures and study – occasionally but I got through heaps of sewing as well but these days I do not do much at all.  Maybe it is because taking more responsibility makes one feel more tired than doing a days manual work.  I wouldn’t know – I only know how I react to it.

Once again Darling, the end of the page.  My love as always, Grace   xxxxxx

* Once again, this is a missing sea letter which clearly accompanied the photograph.  Paul is the interpreter, so it would appear that his fiancée has disappeared in the holocaust.
