My Own Precious Darling,
Your first letter written while on leave has arrived. I feel very sorry for you Darling but I really had to smile when I read the first paragraph of you letter – telling me how sore your feet were. Yes – I have very vivid recollections of that walk home from Lundwood but Darling even though it was extremely cold it was not snowing that morning. You seem to be under the impression that it was – you had better think back again my Dear.
I am really looking forward to your sea-letter telling me all about your leave.
I would love to have been sitting in that garden with you in Pompeii. As wishing will not make it so I shall have to be satisfied with your account of it all. You tell me about it all so well that when I read your letters I almost feel that I am there with you.
I received a letter from Vera this morning. She said that Bessie was still at Newcastle (in Staffordshire) with Eric and – according to Bessie’s letters – thoroughly enjoying herself.
The news from Italy has been very good these last four days. I hope that it continues to be then we shall really feel that we are progressing again.
Yesterday was my evening off so I went to the pictures and saw “The Half-way House”. It was very good and was a mystery film. The other picture showing was a cowboy picture called “The Oklahoma Kid”. These cowboy pictures are very boring I find. They are almost all alike.
It is amazing how quickly time goes when I write to
you. I suppose that it is because when I
re-read your last letter and read all the lovely things you say my mind travels
back and I reminisce then I think of all the things we are going to do in the
future. By the time I have finished
day-dreaming and writing to you I find that it is time to go back on duty – and
so Darling, Au-revoir. You have all my
love, Grace xxxxxx
Note - there was a letter from Stan, also sent today. Scroll down on the main page to read it.
