My Very Own Darling,

Two air-letters arrived from you yesterday, dated May 2nd and 4th.  Your letters are arriving very regularly these days and coming in such a short time too.  Of course – that is how I like it.

You seem to be doing a lot of reading these days.  I have not done any for a fortnight.  However Sister comes back from holiday in a couple of days time so I might get a little more time to call my own.  I am never sorry to see Sister come back.  She is quite welcome to take all the responsibility of the ward.  I must admit she does not like work but I do not mind that side of it.

In one of your letters you said that you hoped for 6 days leave commencing Monday 12th so if it materialised you should be away by now and enjoying yourself.  I hope that you have managed it Darling – you must be ready for a spot of leave.  I am looking forward to you letters telling me all about the places you have visited – if you are allowed to.

Writing about leave reminds me that seven weeks to-morrow I should start my holiday.  I am certainly looking forward to it and I feel ready for it too.  Wouldn’t it be grand if we were going on holiday together – just you and I.

This morning as old patient of mine brought me up a beautiful bunch of yellow roses.  It is all right Darling – do not get worried – he happens to be an old man of seventy and he brought his wife with him!

I had a letter from Vera this morning.  She said that she had received a letter from you at the beginning of the week.  I think that she has been spending a lot of time flag selling.  I had a lengthy account of it and how much she had made, etc.

By the way, how about this for a good suggestion – pay a flying visit to England for your six days off!!  Yes – I know how much you would like to – as much as I would like you to.  I am longing so much to see you again Darling as you know.  However, that is out of the question at the moment so you will have to be content with my written love.  You have it all – ever yours, Grace  xxxxxxxx
