My Very Own Darling,

I was very happy to receive an air-letter from you this morning.  The day always goes much better when I start it with a letter from you.  It was the one you wrote me on the sixth of this month.

I was pleased to hear that the small book I sent you arrived safely and also that you like Rupert Brook’s poems.  I would like to have sent you his complete works but thought that you would have enough kit to carry around with you.  However, Darling, you shall have it when you come home.

Yes – I too like his poem “Granchester”.  I am also very fond of the one “The Great Lover”.  From his poems I think that he himself must have loved deeply at some time.

Every time I receive a letter from you describing the places you have visited or are staying at, I long to be with you.  The scene you described when you wrote your letter seemed very romantic.  I also received a letter from your Mother this morning.  She said that she was very busy as it was “Salute the Soldier” week at Grimethorpe.

Sister arrived back on duty this morning – thank goodness.  I felt as if the weight of the world had been lifted off my shoulders.  Consequently I have felt happier today than I have for the last fortnight.

At the moment I am sitting at the front of a lovely fire.  It is quite cold, even though the sun is shining.  I hate the thought of having to leave it and go on duty – which I am afraid I will have to do in a few moments.

Even though I do not mind being on duty – as you said in one of your recent letters – I am not as fond of nursing as I used to be.  Quite a confession from me, isn’t it?  Now I wonder who could have made me change my mind about nursing?

Shall I let you into the secret?  Yes, Darling – you did!  All I want and live for now is for you to return and to be with you for always.  I love you so Darling – more than I can say.  Will the day eve dawn when I shall look into your dear face again and hear you tell me that you love me?  I know that your love for me is as deep and true as mine is for you but I also know that we are both longing to hear each other actually say it by word of mouth.

Always your own, Grace xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
