My Own Precious Darling,

Two air-letters arrived from you this morning.  A letter from you never fails to give me a thrill so you can guess how I feel when two arrive.  Another thing which also never fails to thrill me is hearing how much you love me.

The other night I was grousing about something or other and I had had an awful day on the ward so consequently was feeling rather depressed, when Ivy – my friend, turned to me and said “Grace, you have a lot to be thankful for – you have the love of a good man and plans for the future”.  Yes Darling, I realise just how lucky I am to be in love with and loved by you.  You said in one of your letters that when you returned from your trip to Naples you hoped there would be several letters from me waiting to say “welcome back”.  I hope there were, Dear.

The great day will be when you return home from this long, long, trip and then Darling – there will be more than letters waiting to say “welcome back”.

I believe that I have mentioned Ivy once or twice before.  I hope that some day you have the pleasure of meeting her she is a grand girl.  She is older than I am – about thirty, but had about as much trouble before she came here as most people have in a life time.

It is my half-day to-day.  It is very cold, though it has been cold for a week.  So far, this month the weather has been very erratic.

We have no heating in our rooms now and have not had a fire to-day so I decided to crawl into bed it being the warmest place.  Kit and Ivy are off duty at 5 p/m and I suppose they will do their best to drag me out to the pictures.  From what I have heard there is not a good show on in town this week.

By the way – please do not worry about me having gone slightly thinner.  I could afford to!  I still weigh 9 st. So you see Darling – you have no need to worry.  Anyhow – you always teased me about my “spare tyre” so perhaps my figure will meet with your approval when you come home.

Until that day Darling, I am always your very own, Grace  xxxxxx
