My Very Own Darling,

It’s Sunday once more & feeling very energetic this afternoon I am spending the time swimming.  Wish you were here to join in the fun!   It's a pleasant little cove I am writing in with a short stretch of white sand – the only piece for miles along this rocky coast - & consequently it is quite crowded.  Quite a few civilian girls & members of the women’s services amongst the people, too.  If only you were here things would be quite enjoyable.

Before I left camp after lunch I got your letter written at the hospital on the day you had returned from your week-end.  Although I don’t like to think of you being unhappy, Darling, I love to hear you admit that as far as you are concerned, nursing has lost most of its glamour.

Yes, it must be terrible for you when you are at Grimethorpe, dear, surrounded by so many people and things to remind you of all the divine happiness that the two of us found in that dirty little mining village.  That’s why I always say it is harder for you left behind than it is for me out here in a completely new country.

Many memories wrench at my heart Darling, but for you it must be twice as agonising.  I can just imagine how you feel if you ever sit alone in the kitchen at home after they have all gone to bed.  You must feel very lonely.

Those exquisite hours to which you refer, my beloved, will be repeated, but when they are it will be at our convenience and not at the convenience of the “decent citizens” (as you are pleased to call them).  We shall be free people when I get home, Angel, free to do what we like, when we like (in that direction anyway)!!

Oh Darling, all my dreams are centred on one girl and on one idea.  You are the girl and you are also the main part of the idea.

I am annoyed with you Darling for saying that perhaps I think you soft for describing all the contents of your bottom drawer – although I don’t suppose you’ve described quite all of them to me, have you?  Of course I don’t think you’re soft Dear, for after all I am just as much interested as you, aren’t I?  And as far as I am concerned everything to do with you and our future is the most exciting & important thing I can think of.  So consider yourself told off!!

What a thrill these words of your “I am deeply in love with you” gave me Dear.  I know it but I love to hear it again and again!

As far as I am concerned I can never find words quite adequate to express my feelings but he words “I love you Darling” will convey everything to you, I am sure.

I am always yours Darling, Stan  xxxxxxxxx
