My Own Precious Darling,
I intended writing this letter to you yesterday but I was so tired I fell fast asleep on my bed and the next thing I knew was Kit shaking me and telling me that it was time to go on duty. You see the previous night we had a dance here and I was just ready to go to the dance when I was told that I would have to go on duty at 1 a/m.
However, as I was ready for the dance I decided to go. The dance finished at 12 a/m. I was on duty then until 5.30 a/m and then back on again at 7 p/m so you can see the reason for me sleeping in my off-duty yesterday.
My holidays start tomorrow so I can have all the sleep I want then.

I am so sorry that I could not finish this letter yesterday.
However, I will try and finish it now – it is my lunch time. If you could see my room at the moment – it looks a dreadful muddle. Everything seems topsy turvy and I just do not know how I am going to pack everything. I suppose I shall manage somehow. We are so short of sleeping accommodation here for the Nurses that we have to pack everything up when we go on holiday.
In one of my previous letters I told you that Kit and I were not going to Edinburgh after all because Nan’s Mother was ill. I wrote Nan and told her that we would not be going and yesterday a letter arrived from her begging us to go. She said that her Mother was feeling better again so we have decided to go after all. We are travelling up there on Monday, July 3rd. Just like a woman not to make up her mind until the last minute, isn’t it? Though it is supposed to be a woman’s privilege (Hope that is spelt correctly)
A friend has just entered my room with a letter from you Darling. In it you say that four days have passed and you have not received a letter from me. I am so sorry Darling. I hope that you were not kept waiting longer for one. Have neither space nor time to answer your letter properly so will answer when I arrive at Grimethorpe.
‘Bye Darling.
Ever your own, Grace xxxxxxx
