My Very Own Darling,
I’ve just had a nice hot bath and have jumped into bed to write to you. It’s “Naafi Day” again and so I’ve got a bottle of beer to keep me company, could think of a better partner, though and you know who!
I started writing a sea letter to you last night, but didn’t manage to get it finished, but will manage it in the course of the next few days. The ban on photos has been lifted now & so I shall be able to send you some views of the capital to brighten up my description.
There’s been no air mail today, which is rather a nuisance for besides getting (or at least hoping to get) a letter from you, I am expecting a letter from Mother to say her Mother has passed away. In her last letter eight or nine days ago, Mother said Grandma was almost on the verge. This last year las been quite a bad one for Mother and Dad, hasn’t it?
The news is very good again to-day both from the war and the home front. I’ve just been listening to the outline of the Government’s social security scheme and I must say its quite good. I am quite pleased with the imaginative way the Government appear to be approaching the end of the war and all the problems which it will bring in its train. It seems that they have learned by their mistakes of the end of the last war and, who knows, some good may come out of the evil of the last five years!
Anyway, Darling, we know of at least one happy thing that’s happened during the war, don’t we? Yes, our love which has grown so strong during the past two years, that at least our happiness is assured in the years that are ahead.
Its amazing what a difference the publication of the Government’s Release Plan has made to everyone over here, Darling. No one talks about anything else. Personally, I’m getting more and more impatient for the day when I shall come home to you my beloved. I know it won’t do any good being impatient, but my feelings take some containing!!
Oh for the day when we can put nursing and soldiering at one side and start living the life that we have both dreamed of! It seems a very lot nearer this week than it did last, even though we’ve got Germany to beat yet.
Well, Darling, no more for
this time except that I love you more & more as each day passes. Always yours
Stan xxxxxxxxxx
