My Own Precious Darling,
Thank you for the “Crusader” and “Parade” which arrived this morning. You did not tell me that you were sending them so they came as quite a surprise. Have not had an opportunity to read them properly as yet, as this morning I caught the 10 a/m bus and went with your Mother to Barnsley and now my Father has got his head into them.
When we arrived in Barnsley your Mother went to have her teeth fitted and then we spent a good few hours scouring the shops.
Your Mother told me that I could chose something as a birthday and Christmas present from you, so we went to Harrals and finally decided upon two solid silver serviette rings. They are really lovely, I am sure you will like them.
I shall get them initialled with yours and my own initials. That is something else I have to say “thank you” for. When you come home Dearest I shall have such a lot to say thank you for – in the proper way. Mother keeps telling me how lucky I am – to have a boy like you but she has no need to tell me – I know.
Remember the tea-spoons I told you I bought on my holiday (for your last birthday). Well, I took them this morning to have them initialled B.
Somebody told me that it was unlucky to have ones future married name or initial on anything before one was actually married but I do not believe in such old wives tales, do you?

Could not finish this last night as I went to 19’. I told your Mother that I would take our serviette rings up to show everybody and as your family will be out tonight and I shall be away this week-end I thought that I had better go last night. Mother came up with me.
I am going to Askern, to-morrow to spend the week-end with Kit. Hope that the weather is a bit better than it has been since I came home.
Well Dear – Vera is standing by the side of me, nattering me to hurry and finish as she is waiting to post it so
‘Bye Darling and all my
love. Grace xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
