My Own Precious Darling,
I always try to get everybody to bed before I write to you but tonight Father seemed to potter around doing dozens of things and now it is 11.15 p/m and he has just said Good-night. Ah me! these men folk can be trying at times!
This morning's post brought me a letter which you had written on Oct 29th. You had just returned from a long walk and you remarked how different England will be looking from Italy.
Yes Darling, I suppose that it is. The trees here are almost bare now and the roads are covered with Ieaves. Every day seems just a bit colder than the previous one reminding us that Winter is just about here.
This evening I listened to the programme “These you have loved”. I wondered if you were listening too, especially when the song sung by Webster Booth was “Smiling Through”. What happy memories that brought back to me. When I am at home there are so many incidents occur and so many places which I visit which bring back happy memories – all associated with you. The trouble is they make me feel so terribly “homesick” for you, Dearest.
Of course, there is one cure for it and you know what that is – yes, for you to return. You seemed very pessimistic about your return in your last letter but Darling, I feel almost sure that 1945 will see you back in England. Try not to get too down hearted about things – however long you are away I shall keep on loving you as much as ever and I shall be waiting for you, my Precious.
I smiled when I read the end of your letter – your electrical system is certainly very poor – your emergency lighting in the beer bottle an unusual one.
Well Darling, there is no more space so I will have to
say Goodnight and all my love. Now and
always. Your own Grace xxxxxxx
