Sunday. 8-8-43
My Own Darling,
I have just been wondering if you have received any more letters from me since you last wrote me. I do hope so, as I know how I feel when I don’t hear from you. I have not heard any more since your letter which arrived last Monday. I am hoping there will be one from you to-morrow.
I have not much fresh news for you since I last wrote. Thursday morning brought me a letter from home but Grimethorpe seemed pretty much the same. No births, deaths or scandal.
We had a dance here last night. The Theatre staff gave it for some good cause or other. I was late off duty but managed to get there for about 10 p.m. The dance finished at mid-night. It was alright but I never enjoy a dance half as much as when I am with you.
I wonder when we shall go to our next dance together again.
Sister decided that she would give me a half-day each week instead of my day-off and then give me a week-end at the end of the month so I might manage to get home again sooner than I expected.
By the way, did you manage to get that film developed? I suppose if you did not get it done before you left North Africa you will not manage it now. I was so looking forward to having some snaps of you.
A friend of mine here became engaged last month so she is now saving for her bottom drawer. She asked me to go out shopping with her the other day, which I did and we both managed to get all sorts of things in the way of kitchen utensils. I think that it must have been our lucky day.
Of course with Kit being on night duty we do not get much chance of seeing each other. I shall be glad when she is off again as it is rather lonely without her when I get off duty at night.
The news is very good these days isn’t it? The Russians seem to be doing very well and we over here feel sure that the day is not far distant when the Germans etc are finally kicked out of the last bit of Sicily.
The clock has just struck a quarter past twelve so I suppose I had better be getting ready to go to dinner. In spite of the fact that it is Sunday it will most likely be corned beef or stew. However, we are lucky compared with some people. What are you fed on in Sicily?
Cheerio for now Darling, my love as always Dear. Ever yours, Grace xxxxxxxxx
