My Very Own Darling,

Christmas Day – and what a day! or I should say what an evening!

I suppose you will be wondering what I have done with myself this Christmas as much as I am looking forward to hearing what you have done with yourself.  I hope that you have enjoyed yourself, Darling, - as much as you could, anyway, under the circumstances.

26-12-43

To begin with the Theatre Staff gave a party on Christmas Eve.  All night staff attended that – and a good time was had by all.

On Christmas morning I had to play Santa once again and give out presents to all the patients.  All the patients have enjoyed their Christmas

On Christmas Day I had an invitation to go to the Empire Theatre and see the show.  Jimmie James, the comedian – my ex-patient – was there.  Kit went with me and he took us “back stage” and introduced us to various people.  We then saw the show.  It was very good.

When we arrived on duty at 8 p/m there was coffee and cakes waiting for us.  We had heaps of invitations to go to various wards to parties and I remained sober!  The strongest drink I had was cider.

Several of the doctors were very merry!

On Monday we are to have our Christmas dinner.  We are having turkey.  The patients had turkey too.  Considering everything – and the fact that we are in the fifth year of a war, we have had quite a good Christmas – so far.

All the same Darling I am looking forward to my first Christmas with you.

My Christmas presents included two sets of table mats and one or two other items for my bottom drawer.

The best of all my Christmas presents Darling were two letters from you.  One which arrived on Christmas Eve and one on Christmas day.

As it is now early morning on the 27th I will have to say Au Revoir.

Once again Darling – I love you and am looking forward more than anything else in the world to the day when you return.

Yours always, Grace   xxxxxxx
