My Very Own Darling,

It is an absolutely glorious night tonight.  The moon is full & it’s shining out of a cloudless sky, making the evening almost as bright as day.  I finished work about 8 p.m. tonight & it was so nice outside that I decided that I would have a stroll out along the seashore for a short time.

As the evening wasn’t too cold, I have spent the last half an hour sitting on the sea wall, watching the moon making pretty reflections in the Adriatic’s blue waters & listening to the music of the waves as they splashed over the rocks.

Of course, Darling, you can guess in what direction my thoughts travelled whilst I was sitting there, and I am sure that had you been by my side to appreciate the beauty of the evening, I should have lingered much longer than I did.  As I have often told you in my letters, there is a certain enchantment about evenings in this part of the world that seems to be missing in England.  All that is missing to make the evening complete is your presence, my Dear.

I was a little bit disappointed today when the weekly air mail arrived & there wasn’t one from you, but I suppose your letter will be turning up tomorrow!  I had three, however, so I can’t really grumble, one from Mother, one from Dad (the second since joining the Army!) & one from Vera.

She gave me a little bit of inside news about all the purchases you have been making, Darling, & says you have had to have additional accommodation now!  I find such news very thrilling, Darling.  It is absolutely grand of you to be making all these preparations in my absence, I shall be coming home & finding most of the work done!!

In her letter, Mother mentioned that she had bought your Christmas present on my behalf.  By now you will have got it, I suppose.  I hope that Mother’s choice was to your liking, dear.  I am only sorry that I wasn’t able to make the choice myself – but then I probably shouldn’t have done the job so well as my Mother!!  What do you say?

There’s very little news of any note at the moment.  We had an ENSA show in the local cinema and it turned out to be a concert party which had entertained us when we were in NORFOLK last December.  Such a lot has happened since then.  When they gave us the first show I never dreamed I should be watching them in an Italian theatre in 12 months time.

Well, my Darling, no more space.  Will write again as soon as I get your letter.

All my love Angel.  You are always in my thoughts.  Yours Stan  xxxx
