9 a.m.

My Own Darling,

Yesterday morning’s post brought me two air-letters from you, one dated Nov. 24th and one dated Nov: 26th, so it had only taken them about ten days to arrive in England.

I really intended writing this letter some time during the night but I did not have chance for a meal never mind a letter.  Between 8 p.m. and 8.30 a.m. I had exactly one cup of tea and one piece of cake.  The only opportunity I had of sitting down was when I wrote my night report.  I had two very ill cases brought in during the night, one being a little girl of twelve with Meningitis.  I doubt whether she will live.  We are doing all we possible can do for her.  I do hope that she does live.

Ivy, a friend of mine, is on a Medical ward and she has also had a hectic night.  However, she was ready to go off duty, together with the pro’ at ten past eight but there was a tea spoon missing so they were kept twenty minutes looking for a tea-spoon!  You can guess how fed up she was about it, when I saw her she said “My God, Grace, it makes you wonder if it is all worth it.” and believe me, it does.

Here I am, talking shop again.  I am sure that it cannot interest you.  As it is I already know your opinion upon the subject.

I know something that will interest you though.  Something that you have heard dozens of times before but that you like hearing again as much I like hearing or reading, it from you.  Yes Darling, it is that I still love you more and more each day.

Two days ago was the sixth of the month – our anniversary.  One whole year and ten months since we first met.  I never thought for one minute that night that I should know you now and love you as much as I do Darling.  That was a happy night and there have been happier ones since and what is better still Darling – happier ones in store for us together.

As there is no more space I will have to say Au-Revoir.

You have all my love, Grace  xxxxxxx
