G.H.N.                                                                                (102)

25.2.44

My Own Precious Darling,

This morning I posted an ordinary letter to you but I suppose it will be some time before you receive it.

If my memory is correct it will be about a year now since you left the shores of England.  I wonder how long it will be before you see them again?  Not very long my Darling, I do hope.

Quite a lot has happened in this last year.  You have travelled thousands of miles, the Allied Nations have had many victories on all fronts and above all Darling, we both realise how deeply we love each other.   Lots of other things have happened as well but we both know them all so I will not waste this precious paper by recording the all here.

Our love Darling is the thing that matters most to us, is it not and our two lives together?

Of course, I do realise that this war is also of major importance and that until it comes to a victorious end for us we have to be content with our dreams, though “dreams are not our aim”.

You asked me in your last letter if I had had my photo taken yet.  I am pleased to tell you that I have.  I have also seen the proof.  I think that the finished product will be all right but it will not be ready for another six weeks.  However, as soon as they are ready I will post yours on, so in about another two months you should receive it.  I made the appointment for it before Christmas.

In my sea letter I have told you that I am on day duty once again.  It is grand to get off duty at night and not feel “washed out”.  One does get tired on day duty when one is busy, but busy or not in night duty one feels utterly worn out at 8 a.m.  I suppose that both night and day duty have their advantages and vice versa.  However, day duty it is for me now I suppose, while ever I remain at the G.H.N.

It is now Saturday and my evening off.  I shall not go out as it is a dreadful evening – gloomy and raining.  Trying to get into a picture house too on Saturday night in Nottingham is hopeless unless one goes before tea.

If I do not close now this letter will never catch the post so “Au-Revoir”, Dear.

All my love my Darling.  Always yours, Grace   xxxxxx
