26 Feb 44

My Very Own Darling,

The only thing of note during the past few days has been the arrival of a very nice letter from you, date 17 Feb 44.

I had to smile at the note you put in brackets after the description of the shawl that Vera is knitting.  Do you remember what it was?  I think you must have been thinking a long way ahead when you wrote it!!

Of course you didn’t bore me by the description of your new dress.  You should know by experience that I am most interested in what you wear.  If I remember rightly quite a few arguments have materialised on our shopping expeditions about dresses etc. Colours were the usual thing we couldn’t see eye to eye about.

I must say, however, that your new dress sounds quite colourful & of the design I’ll just say one word – intriguing.  You’ll understand the wealth of meaning behind that one word, Angel, I’ll be bound!!!  I always liked the style of your lilac coat – it was the one you wore on our first outing I believe.  Should look just as nice now as ever.  By the way, have you found a hat in your travels?

Oh, Darling I am just longing for the day when I can see you once more and be able to feel you in my arms, instead of having to imagine what you are looking like & how you are feeling at present.  How I wish they’d put a jerk on with this blamed war!

Getting back to the clothing problem, I was going to buy you some more stockings the other day.  I say “going to” for when I sent out to interpreter to do a spot of shopping the cheapest he could find were  400L and the best as far as material was concerned 600L.  That is £1 and 30/- respectively, so you can guess I put my money back where it came from!

On the few occasions that I go out around the shops, I keep my eyes open for anything that might suit you, but the Ities are such rogues – they always want twice as much for an article as it is worth.

Well, that all for tonight, Darling.  Will write again early next week.  I should have received some more letters from you by then.

Always yours, Darling, Stan  xxxxxxxx
