6 Feb 44.

My Very Own Darling,

I have managed an afternoon off today, as a sort of celebration, but as it is a rotten day (hail, snow & rain is beating against the windows) I am spending the time lazing on an armchair in the Mess, listening to the wireless & drowsily dreaming of you.

About this time a couple of years ago, I was just setting out to take you out for the first time.  As I dashed down for the bus (late as usual) I wondered whether you’d be there & what you would say & lots more things.

Remember how you told me off for keeping you waiting?  We neither of us thought that that happy afternoon would be the forerunner of so many thrilling times together, did we?

The wireless is putting out some very pleasant stuff just at the moment and very appropriately the record of “the Warsaw Concerto” has just finished.  It is, I think, one of my favourite pieces and I always associate so many little incidents from our lives together with it.

When we are married and if & when we can afford a radiogram, I shall make sure that record is in our collection.  Our first argument was about the difference between that & Tchaik’s Piano Concerto, wasn’t it?

To-day's mail has just been brought into the Mess but I am afraid there isn’t one from you amongst it, a pity, Darling, isn’t it for I should like to have heard from you on our anniversary.  I have one from Mother dated 31 Jan.  Arrived in seven days, not bad, eh?

I can’t understand what has happened to all your letters, Dear, for the last one I have received was one written on 18 Jan.  Still, I suppose if I am patient they will eventually arrive.

Mother mentions that you were at home & had been up to see her & that the Bristow clan had been to supper at your home.

Wish I could have been there, Darling.  But I think that our reunion will be “just between ourselves” don’t you?  We shall have so much to tell each other and so much to catch up with shan’t we.  What a thrill it will be, my Darling, to take you into my arms again after so long.  I only hope my tachycardia will stand up to it!!

Well, here we are at the bottom of a page again, so it will have to be “Au Revoir” for now.  Wonder where 6 Feb 45 will find us both?

Always yours, Darling.  Stan xxxxxxxxxx
