My Very Own Darling,
I wrote you a ten page sea letter last night, the first for quite a time, but I thought I would ramble over a few pages of air letter tonight, especially as I received a letter from you this afternoon, & have something new to write about.
This “Flying Horse” place you have mentioned once or twice seems to be just the type of place I like. Perhaps, Darling, we shall be able to have a dinner there some time when I get back to England.
I am glad to hear you admit that you like open fireplaces & low oak beamed rooms. I always think they are such cosy places, especially if you’ve got the right sort of furniture to go with it.
If ever we get into that happy position where we can have a house which is really our own, Dear, that’s the way I should like the dining room done!
But listen to me, I’ve certainly got my head into the clouds tonight, haven’t I? I suppose lots of water will flow under the bridges of England before ever we realised such dreams as that – unless of course you have a rich relative to remember you in her will. Sorry, I haven’t!
Still there’s nothing like knowing what you’re aiming for is there Darling, and although it will perhaps be hard work getting it, it will be thrilling, because I shall have you by my side all the time & we shall be working for something that we’ve dreamed about for so long & are both determined to get out of life and that is complete happiness. I only hope that the day isn’t far distant when we can start on the job.
Oh, this damned war! Such a lot depends on it, doesn’t it? I often curse it & then there are times when I am thankful for it for perhaps we should not have met had it not been for the war. It was certainly a happy night for me Darling at that dance. I never thought when I set off to the Welfare Hall that night that it was the start of such an important phase of my life.
The more I think over the past two years, the more I love you. You have been wonderful to me sticking by me like you are doing, whilst I am so far away. If ever there was proof that our love is of the right stuff this last year has proved it hasn’t it? I love you more and more as each week passes. There will dawn a day soon I hope when I shall be able to show you rather than tell you through writing just how much you mean to me.
Night night, Darling. Pleasant dreams. Always yours, Stan xxxxxxxxx
