My Very Own Darling,

I had quite a beano yesterday when the sea mail arrived, for I was presented with five letters, two of which were from you.  I have written a sea letter back in reply.

In it I placed a better print of one of the photographs I had taken in our cafe the other week.  The interpreter had some enlargements done & so I snaffled one.

It was such a grand day yesterday that I took a couple of hours off after lunch & spent a very pleasant time sitting at the end of the pier reading, dozing & dreaming a little of the future.  The latter is my favourite pastime Darling.  I get a real kick out of dreaming what our life together will be like and I am sure that we shall both get an even greater kick out of actually putting our dreams into practice.

You were asking if I had done any reading of late.  Work has slackened off a bit recently & I have therefore had a bit more time for reading.  I have just completed my first book for months – “The Country House” by Galsworthy.  It has a pleasing style & captures the spirit of the English countryside exceptionally well.

Knowing that you like the country I am sure that you would enjoy the book.  You want to get hold of it if you can.

You mentioned in your letter that you found “I, Claudius” pretty stiff going at first.  I found the same trouble but unlike you, I did not persevere & gave it up as a bad job after about 10 – 20 pages.

You make me feel quite jealous when you write about holidays!  How I wish I was in England & able to plan them with you.  Have you finally decided upon Edinburgh?

We had an ENSA concert party visit us on Saturday, otherwise life has gone on its usually dreary round since I last wrote to you.

How I wish we could put a jerk in this so and so war & get it over & done with.  We have so many important things to do, haven’t we, Darling?  The last 18 months absence has really shown us how much we mean to each other & emphasised how empty the future would be had we not our plans to think of.

I love you Darling.  Always yours Stan   xxxxxxxx
