My Very Own Darling,

Pleased to receive an air letter from you this morning.  I am looking forward to receiving your sea letter enclosing the photograph.  I should receive yours about the same time as you receive mine as they were both posted about the same time.

You asked me if I had finally decided upon Edinburgh for my holidays.  Yes, both Kit and I are going – all being well.  Of course, so many things may happen before July, that we may have to alter our plans and we may not even manage a holiday.  Even that would not worry me if it would hasten the end of this war.

It is my half-day today but it is raining so hard and does not look like clearing up so I do not think I will venture out again this evening.

Do you remember me mentioning once or twice an old lady that I know called Mrs Brown?  She lives just outside Nottingham.  She had a fractured neck of femur about three years ago and had to have a special pin inserted but has never been able to walk as well as she ought to on it.  She decided to see another surgeon and as a result has had to go to Harlow Wood Orthopaedic Hospital and have anther operation.

I have been out to see her this afternoon.  She is looking rather ill but is as well as one can expect her to be after a big operation.

As I walked down the ward and saw all the patients in plaster and splints etc and the dreary wards of such hospitals I realised that I could never go back to Orthopaedic nursing.  It was all very well when nursing was new to me and I was a raw beginner but – not now.

And now my Darling I have almost filled this letter talking shop and about people you do not know so consequently have only a small space left in which to say “I love you Darling”.

‘Bye then Dear and I hope you are still taking care of yourself.

For ever yours, Grace  xxxxxxxxx
