My Own Darling,

I have just returned from spending a couple of days at home.  You can imagine how thrilled I was to find two air letters and a sea letter waiting for me.

One air letter you had written on the 16th of April and the other on the 19th.  Your sea letter you had written on the 2nd of this month and in it you had enclosed the enlargement of one those snaps you sent me.  Thank you for it Darling.  I liked those snaps better than any you have had taken so I was very pleased to receive an enlargement.  Thank you also for the cutting about Vesuvius.

In one of your air-letters you told me about the apple and peach trees being in blossom.  The trees are blossoming in England too.  I had a grand journey back this afternoon.  It was very sunny and a cool breeze was blowing and really the country everywhere was beautiful – the trees and the grass are so green, there were flowers everywhere and the trees in blossom.

The weather was perfect whilst I was at home.  I did not get home until 7 p/m Tuesday.  I decided to wash my hair and retire early – which I did.  I slept solidly until 11.30 the next morning.  In the afternoon I took Vera to see our new cousin – a girl called Elizabeth Ann* – she was just four days old and a beautiful baby.

Last night I was going up to 19’ but Janet came up and told me that your parents were out so once again I retired early and went to see your Mother this morning.  I also spoke to your father over the ‘phone.

I took your Mother a photo up.  She quite liked it and that Darling is how I spent my time at Grimethorpe.  Not very hectic but quite a change and a rest.  Every time I go I wonder how long it will be before I go down those streets again with you.

Until that day – my love Dear, Grace  xxxxx

 *  Elizabeth Ann is the daughter of Grace's maternal aunt Hilda and her husband Harry Cuthbert.
