My Very Own Darling,

I feel quite homesick after reading the letter you wrote dated 27 March.

Your news of playing tennis in grand spring weather and of the violets, daffodils etc makes me yearn more than ever to be at home by your side.

Spring is such a lovely, exciting period of the year, isn’t it?  It makes me feel good to be alive, when one looks around & sees everything re-awakening after its long winter sleep.

I have got very lazy since being in the Army as far as sport is concerned.  But once I get home, Darling, you must bring me out & make me be a lot more energetic – as you can guess I shan’t need much dragging where you are concerned!!!  It seems so many years since I played tennis.  You’ll probably have to set on and teach me again.

Still, in return I’ll be quite willing to teach you to swim.  You really must learn, Darling, when I come home.  You don’t realise what you are missing not being able to take full advantage of the sea.

While I am on the subject of sport, we had an international football match yesterday.  Our unit team played a team of Italian paratroopers & beat them 3-2 after quite an exciting match.  The Italian team played very well.

I am pleased to read that the time for collecting your photographs is getting nearer.  I am very patiently waiting their arrival.  Life is made up of one long wait these days, Darling, isn’t it?  Still it is good training I suppose.

I think spring has really come to stay now.  At the moment the weather is grand.  I am sitting on the end of the jetty gazing at a beautiful blue sea, so blue that it is difficult to tell where the sea leaves off and the cloudless sky commences.  What a pleasant afternoon it would be if you were by my side.

I miss you very much Darling and love you more as each day goes slowly by.  How I am patiently waiting for the day to dawn when I shall be back by your side.

Always you have my love, Stan   xxxxxxxx
