My Very Own Darling,

What a hellish day it has been to-day!  The hottest day we have had this year and quite up to the African standard.  Consequently I have been very irritable and the lads in the office here had rather a bad time today.  (Just see what you have to put up with when I come back to you & we get married).

Probably my bad mood was as much due to the fact that I have felt very tired today, due to some unaccustomed exercise.  I had an afternoon off yesterday & so I thought I would go for a ride.  I therefore borrowed a bicycle & set off.  Actually I only did about 15 miles, but was I stiff when I woke up this morning – I’ll say I was!

So you’ve been down on the river trying to get sun-burned have you?  I had a calamity the other day when I went down for my bathe.  I swam round for a while and then got out of the water on to the sand and fell asleep.  Don’t know how long I was asleep, but when I woke I was as red as a beetroot and since then I’ve had an uncomfortable time.  Suppose I shall start peeling now!

Glad to read that you are treating your soldier-patients very well.  After all, I think they deserve it, don’t they?  They are doing a good job in Normandy.  I bet its tough going.

There is a certain soldier who wishes you were looking after him – exclusively.  So you know his name & where he is at the moment?  I thought you would guess right first time, Angel.  Don’t expend all your energies looking after these strangers.  Save some for when I get back to England.  I wonder if the troops on your ward realise how lucky they are having a marvellous person like you to look after them.

Well, as you said in the letter I got yesterday that you were to start your leave on July 1.  I suppose by now you will be at home in the dreary but homely atmosphere of Grimethorpe.  How much I wish that I could be with you Darling.  We had a good time in the summer of ’42 when we were at home together for ten whole days.  Sounds a horribly long time ago, doesn’t it Dear?  Hope you and Kit successfully formulated your plans.

By the way I’ll address this to Grimethorpe so you’ll be certain of getting it without any delay.

My best wishes to your parents & to Vera, and to you as always my Beloved.

All my love, Stan  xxxxxxxxx
