My Very Own Darling,

Sunday again!  This day has come to mean two things to me, firstly the end of one week and the start of another which will bring you and I nearer together; and secondly mail day.

The A.P.O. didn’t disappoint me today, neither, Darling, for besides your letter of 11 Jul there was an absolutely grand sea letter written a month earlier.  It ensured that today would be a pleasant one.

As you wrote your air letter your stay in Scotland was drawing to a close.  It will be just a lot of memories by the time this reaches you.  I noted one thing – at the time of writing you hadn’t climbed Arthur’s Seat.  If you didn’t, I shall pull your leg, so there!!  I mean to say I was in Edinburgh only three days & I managed to get up there – but (just to let you into a secret) I went most of the way by car!!  Still the view was smashing & if you didn’t go up there, you missed something.

Films & shows seemed to have made your holiday quite a gay one.  Glad you enjoyed the play.  I am hoping to see a good show this week Irving Berlin & his show “This is the Army” has at last managed to get to the local town & I am attempting to procure a seat – and believe me, with so many Yanks about, it is some job.

I noted the fact that your friend Nan had been giving you a few cookery lessons with pleasure.  That’s right, Darling, practise on other people as much as possible and then our marriage & my digestion won’t be ruined in the early stages!!  How I’d like to undergo the “risk” immediately, though Precious.  I think that once we are together it will take more, much more, than a small item such as food to interfere with our happiness.  We shall be too busy living, what do you say?

There’s another photograph, Dear, a rose between two thorns, or yours truly framed by the RSM on my left & RQMS* on my right.  I don’t think it’s quite as good as the others, even ignoring the fact that the bloke who took it did his best to “behead” me.  Still, its another one to the collection.

That old curse “shortage of space” crops up again, so I’ll have to bid you “Goodnight” once more Angel.  I’ll be writing again in a couple of days.  Till then keep dreaming of me.  You have my love.

Always yours Stan xxxxxxxx

* RQMS is the Regimental Quarter Master Sergeant, but we don't know his name.  RSM (Regimental Sergeant Major) MacDonald we can recognise from other photos.
